The Great New Zealand Toastie Takeover is back - bigger, bolder and cheesier than ever.

For the next six weeks, 200 cafés, bars, restaurants and food trucks from Paihia to Dunedin will be serving up their ultimate toastie creations.

Some are the classic winter heroes you crave on a cold day. Others are pushing the boundaries with fillings like goat, prawns, paneer, raclette, smoked gouda — and enough pickles to get us through until spring.

But Toastie Takeover has always been about more than what’s between two slices of bread.

It’s about discovering a new favourite spot.
It’s about grabbing lunch with friends.
It’s about finally walking into that café you’ve been meaning to try.
And it’s about getting behind the local hospo legends who keep our communities buzzing.

So here’s the challenge for the next six weeks:
Find your favourite. Try something new. And eat your way through the best toasties New Zealand has to offer.
